Vertical Lift Module
Vertical Lift Modules (VLM’s) consist of 2 vertical columns of trays filled with inventory and a center column that includes an “inserter/extractor”. The “inserter/extractor” retrieves and puts-away trays for picking operations, similar to how an elevator moves people from different stories of a building.
How Vertical Lift Modules or VLM's Works
VLM’s are considered automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) as well as goods-to-person solutions because they have self-contained inventory Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) that can retrieve multiple inventory items all at once and deliver directly to the picking station. Multiple VLM’s can operate from the same warehouse management system, decreasing product retrieval time and increasing picking efficiency.
VLM’s work with high quantities of SKU’s that are medium to low velocity and typically small in size. They are safe, reliable, high-density, secure, and efficient picking solutions. They are used in many industries including:
